Creating a Long Lasting Impact, on a Journey to Excellence!

Musical Theater Workshops build skills in singing on key, understanding tempos, acting with full expression & projection, proper breathing and polishing movement as a group. Students will also develop and build improvisational skills through theatre games. Two annual musical theatre workshops are offered each year and culminate in a professional children’s theatre performance in our Black Box Theatres. Faculty from our Dance and Music Departments, provide choreography and vocal coaching for our young actors and actresses. MT2 Workshops are great for 3-6th graders and MT1 provides a perfect introduction for K-2nd!

Children’s & Primary Division

MT1: Front Row Center (Kindergarten to 2nd Grade)

This class teaches the fundamentals necessary to build a strong foundation.  At the end of each semester, students will prepare a themed informal presentation.

MT2: Broadway Bound (3rd Grade to 6th Grade)

This combination Acting and Singing/Dancing workshop teaches students techniques for stage acting as well as working as an ensemble.  Students will have a more focused exposure the three elements of singing, acting and dancing to prepare a musical theatre “Best Of” show presentation in our Black Box Theatre.

Lower & Upper Division

MT3: Advanced Musical Theatre Practicum (by invitation or placement only)

Throughout this class, students will learn different scenes, production numbers, and songs.  This class will also be a part of our touring group which will require additional rehearsals as well as on-location performance opportunities.    Throughout class students focus on individual and ensemble work, requiring them to work together and get first-hand experience performing as an ensemble.

MT4: Advanced Scene into Song (by invitation or placement only)

This advanced Musical Theatre Technique class hones the skills necessary to work with scene partners.  Students will learn techniques that will help them listen to scene partners and focus on the importance of objectives through the use of scenes transitioning to songs.

Improv

Made famous by shows like “Whose Line Is It Anyway” improvisation is the art of developing scenes and characters spontaneously on the spot. By adopting the attitude of not denying others and learning their own ability to adapt and thrive in an endless number of possible scenarios, students of improv gain confidence and the ability to support their peers. Not only will students learn the basics of improv and sketch production, but at the end of each month, they will compete in a showcase to raise contributions for the charity of their choice!
