Why Join Performances at Scripps Performing Arts Academy?
Performing is more than taking the stage—it’s an opportunity for dancers and actors to apply their training in a real-world setting. Our productions help students build confidence, develop presence, and refine their skills in a supportive, non-competitive atmosphere.
Stage experience is a vital part of a dancer’s journey. Our performances provide a structured and enriching environment where students connect their classroom training with artistic expression, preparing them for future endeavors in the arts and beyond.
We believe in the power of collaboration. By bringing students together in beautifully choreographed productions, we nurture a sense of community where every performer contributes to the storytelling and overall artistic vision.
Where Growth Meets Artistic Expression
At Scripps Performing Arts Academy, performances are more than shows—they are stepping stones in the journey of personal and artistic growth. Our thoughtfully curated productions emphasize commitment, creativity, and shared artistry while showcasing the technical excellence and passion of our students. From the youngest dancers to pre-professional artists, every performer takes the stage with confidence, purpose, and joy. Beyond refining their technique, students gain a deeper understanding of storytelling and stage presence in a professional-quality production setting.

Connecting Learning to the Stage
At Scripps Performing Arts Academy, we believe that the stage is a natural extension of the classroom. Every performance provides students with the chance to bring their hard work and creativity to life, transforming technique and theory into captivating artistry.
Performing in front of an audience builds essential qualities like focus, resilience, and adaptability—traits that benefit students both on and off the stage. Our productions are carefully designed to encourage these skills while fostering a deeper connection to the art form. Each performance immerses students in the creative process, allowing them to experience the transformative power of storytelling through expertly choreographed and costumed productions.
Through this tangible application of learning, students gain confidence in their abilities, develop a strong sense of commitment, and experience the joy of sharing their craft with others. They also build adaptability and a strong sense of artistic identity, strengthening their connection to their peers and the art form itself. Our collaborative environment nurtures meaningful connections among performers, fostering a sense of community where every dancer contributes to the magic on stage. The discipline and dedication required for each production instill values that extend far beyond the theatre, shaping well-rounded individuals with a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

The Nutcracker
A cherished holiday tradition, The Nutcracker is performed annually in collaboration with Scripps Ballet Theatre. Featuring dancers ages 3.5 to 18, this production captivates audiences with its beautiful choreography and enchanting storytelling. Performances take place at the elegant David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre, with an abridged version presented at the Nutcracker Holiday Tea at The Fairmont Grand Del Mar. The San Diego Union-Tribune has praised it as “Spellbinding!” Group discounts are available for schools and Girl Scout troops.

Spring Dance Concerts
Each spring, our students bring dance to life through a stunning stage production, featuring classical and contemporary works. Past performances have included Coppélia, Cinderella, and original productions like Over the Rainbow and Earthkalah. Open auditions allow students to take part in a meaningful artistic experience, connecting them with their audience in a professional theatre setting.

End-of-Year, All-School Performances
An inspiring showcase of talent across all ages and abilities, this annual performance unites students from every program in a beautifully staged production. From ballet to contemporary dance, the show highlights the growth and dedication of our students while featuring a special presentation by Scripps Ballet Theatre. Held each June at a local professional theatre, this event is a celebration of artistry and achievement.

Musical Theatre Productions
Bringing stories to life through acting, singing, and dance, our musical theatre program offers two full-scale productions each year. Every student who auditions is placed in a role suited to their experience and ability, ensuring growth and confidence on stage. Past productions include The Little Mermaid Jr., Legally Blonde Jr., Beauty and the Beast, Seussical the Musical, and original works like Heroes and Change-Up Champions. These productions create a dynamic and engaging experience where students explore the magic of musical theatre.
