To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful. This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking.

The Difference. . .

The Scripps Performing Arts Academy is a quality professional training facility for ballet, theatre, dance and music. We inspire learning from the inside out, rather than trying to motivate students from the outside in.

Utilizing age appropriate costumes and choreography, we produce beautiful and meaningful dance and musical theatre productions in lieu of dance competitions and recitals.

History

Scripps Performing Arts Academy was founded in the community of Scripps Ranch in 1987, shortly after Angela Amoroso relocated here from New York. Having ran a successful school in New York prior to her move, SPAA was founded to provide North County families with an outlet for self-expression and a means to develop a life long love of the arts while also increasing self-discipline, self and community responsibility. We presented our very first Nutcracker in 1988.

Miah Nwosu began her formal training with Miss Angela at Scripps Performing Arts Academy in the 3rd grade, and returned from New York in 2002 to help grow and develop SPAA’s ballet program. Drew Skinner joined us in 2003. We opened our second location in Carmel Valley in 2007 and Scripps Ballet Theatre, our youth ballet company in residence, was formally organized in 2010 to fill a need for our most advanced students.

Since 2003, we have created a unique and substantial Performing Arts Complex offering pre-professional training in Classical Ballet, Dance and Musical Theatre, exposing thousands of young people across San Diego County to the magic of the performing arts!

Mission

Our mission is to provide a creative, nurturing environment that instills self-confidence, self-esteem and teamwork without sacrificing the core values of dance as an art form.
